With the launch of Paperchase in Sheffield, Orchard Square Waterstones is taking the opportunity for you to meet some great local authors, do some fun activities and browse their store and stock up on some stationery.

Friday 30th July
Meet M G Naylor.
Here’s your chance to meet the author of Secrets of Hightower, nominated for the Sheffield Book Awards. 12 year old Nick inherits Hightower Cottage and moves in with his mother, leaving all his friends behind. With a generous monthly allowance and acres of land, it would seem that Nick’s problems are over. However, Nick cannot escape the fact that something is wrong. He is being watched, strange voices interrupt his nights and a mysterious cat is more than a mere pet tabby!
2-3pm – Ground Floor, Free to attend and get your book signed

Saturday 31st July
Meet Agnes Grunwald-Spier
Sheffield based Agnes is the author of ‘The Other Schindlers’. As a baby, Agnes Grunwald-Spier was herself saved from the horrors of Auschwitz by an unknown official, and is now a trustee of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. She has collected together the stories of thirty individuals who rescued Jews, and these provide a new insight into why these people were prepared to risk so much for their fellow men and women. With a foreword by Sir Martin Gilbert, one of the leading experts on the subject, ‘The Other Schindlers’ is an ultimately uplifting account of how some good deeds really do shine in a weary world.
12-2pm – Ground Floor, free to attend

Saturday 31st July
Meet Fran Halsall
Fran’s books are a beautiful testimony to the glorious landscape around Sheffield, capturing the moody moor land to perfection. Whether it’s the rocky heights of Stanage or the ancient settlement of Mam Tor, Fran’s photographs will delight any lover of nature. This award winning photographer is back in Orchard Square to sign copies of her books, ‘The Peak District’ and ‘Light and Shadow’.

Music is a key part of Sheffield’s history with a number of chart topping acts hailing from the Steel City. With widely successful bands such as The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire or Heaven 17, rock giants Def Leppard and indiepop darlings – Pulp paving the way for the more recent Arctic Monkeys and their counterparts – Sheffield has a rich tradition of entertaining the masses. With Neil’s book – Take It To The Limit, he charts the rise and fall of one of Sheffield’s most successful music venues. If you remember The Limit come and chat to Neil – a frequent resident there and share your memories of this gone but not forgotten venue.
